Charitable and Educational Foundation

The GNO-ABO Charitable and Educational Foundation Inc. was established by the Alpha Beta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority¬† in August 2001. The foundation’s purpose is to increase philanthropic endeavors and programs of service in the Greater New Orleans area. At least one scholarship in the amount of $1,000 or more is awarded to nominees at Dillard University, Loyola University New Orleans, Southern University New Orleans, and Xavier University of Louisiana.

The dollar amount awarded each year is determined by proceeds from annual fundraising events presented by the GNO-ABO Charitable and Educational Foundation Inc. The Scholarship Committee makes recommendations to Alpha Beta Omega membership for the number of recipients and total amount of dollars to be awarded.

In order to qualify for a scholarship, a student must be an African-American woman who is a sophomore or junior with a grade point average of at least 3.0. She must have good citizenship and leadership ability, including community service and campus involvement, and demonstrate need for financial assistance.
